Terms & Definitions

Agents:

Employees of DAB&T committed to enforcing the state beverage laws.

Alcoholic Beverages:

Distilled spirits and all beverages containing ½ of one (1) percent or more alcohol by volume.

DAB&T:

The Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco under the Department of Business and Professional Regulations: State agency whose authority it is to issue alcoholic beverage licenses and enforce the laws regarding the selling and serving of alcoholic beverages.

Licensed Premises:

All rooms where alcoholic beverages are stored sold or consumed. This area may include a sidewalk or other outside area, which is contiguous to the licensed premises with the written approval of county or municipality attesting to compliance with local ordinances.

Licensee:

An individual, corporation, firm, partnership, limited partnership, professional, incorporated or unincorporated association, or other legal or commercial entity or combination of such entities having a financial interest directly or indirectly in an alcoholic beverage license.

Responsible Vendor program:

An ongoing course of instruction for licensees and their employees that includes:

  • Methods for recognizing and dealing with underage patrons
  • Laws covering alcoholic beverage service
  • Alcoholic beverage establishment operation laws
  • Effects of alcohol on the human body, behavior and vehicle operation
  • Effects of alcohol in combination with commonly used legal & illegal drugs
  • Effects of controlled substances on behavior and the body
